Dear Franklin Community,
As our fall sports teams continue to play throughout the season, we request your support in reinforcing behavioral expectations at events. We are sharing this information proactively to prevent any incidents. We expect our athletes to demonstrate sportsmanship on the field and our fans to exhibit respectful behavior from the stands. We're pleased to share that fan behavior has steadily improved over the years, and we appreciate everyone's efforts.
Fan Cheering
Fan cheering is welcomed and, when it's done in good taste, contributes to a positive game environment. Inappropriate chants, excessive jeering, and offensive remarks do not represent our values. We are proud to share that our students have acted appropriately this season so far. Unfortunately, inappropriate behavior from an individual creates a negative impression of themselves and can also reflect poorly on Franklin High School, Franklin Public Schools, and the Town of Franklin. In response to issues, our school administrators must spend significant time investigating incidents, taking them away from important work within our schools.

Middle/Elementary School Student Attendance at Varsity Games
Over the years, we have seen an increase in elementary and middle school students attending FHS athletic events, which we welcome as a positive sign of team support and school spirit. Over the years, some elementary and middle school students have left designated fan sections and gathered behind the home bleachers during varsity football games. Due to staffing constraints, this area is largely unmonitored and has led to reports of unsafe behaviors. We do not have the staff capacity to monitor students in these areas throughout the event.

We look forward to partnering as a community and building upon our positive reputation as strong competitors and respectful fans.
Sincerely,
Franklin Public Schools
