The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is an organization that is dedicated to college athletics. There are three divisions with varying competition levels. Athletic scholarships are available for students who compete at the D1 or D2 level. Athletic scholarships are not available for D3 athletics. To be eligible to play at the D1 or D2 levels, students must ensure that they have registered through the NCAA Eligibility Center. Students need to reach out to their guidance counselor if they are planning on playing sports at the D1 or D2 level as soon as they know their plan is to play collegiate-level sports. This is because there are certain classes that students have to take in order to be eligible to play at the collegiate-level in those divisions. Division 3 academic eligibility is determined by each individual D3 college or university.
